Take care of your underwear and swimwear clothes

Underwear are an important part of personal hygiene. Unfortunately, it’s not so easy to keep them alive and they don’t ever last long. That’s the same thing for our swimsuit. Attacked by chlorine, salt, sea and sun, your swimsuits don’t stay long too. Because your lingerie is precious and deserves the greatest attention, and because it will be soon the time to put away your swimwear, here are some precious maintenance tips.

TIP 1 = COLORS : Separate white and colored clothes. White underwear tends to gray and black to whiten or fade. To avoid this, wash them only with pieces of the same shade. The wipes designed for this purpose are not an absolute guarantee, especially for your underwear, much more delicate. So take some time and sort it out.

TIP 2 = FABRICS : Be carreful to fragile fabrics and read the labels. They give some essential informations and indicate if it’s possible to use washing machine. If fabrics are too delicate, opt for washing by hand.

TIP 3 = CLEANING : Close every button, velcro and zipper to avoid friction, preserve your machine and your underwear. Then place your lingerie in pockets, nets or pillowcases. Wash your underwear at low temperatures !! Never exceed 30°C and use a mild detergent. Washing at low temperature is imperative because too high temperatures harms the intensity and brightness of the colors, but also the elasticity.

TIP 4 = DRYING : Said goodbye to electric clothes dryers that damage considerably fabrics ! Dry your underwear flat, don’t twist them and avoid clothes pegs that ruin and leave marks on your lingerie.

The most effective and safe solution to increase the life of your underwear is of course the hand wash. It takes time but it’s worth it !

Mistakes to avoid

  • Don’t clean the silk and the wool in washing machine. These fabrics are not resistant enough
  • Don’t use softener for your underwear ! It affects fabric elasticity
  • Don’t use bleach or chlorine that attack materials, skin and clothes
  • Don’t put underwear on heaters to dry them
  • Ironing is absolutely not recommended

Between salt, chlorine and sand, your swimsuits don’t have an easy life !! That’s why it’s essential to take good care of them.

TIP 1 : Rinse with fresh or warm water after each use to get rid of the biggest : sand, salt and chlorine. Let soak, a few minutes.

TIP 2 : Wash them by hand with a soap but don’t rub them to preserve the fibers.

TIP 3 : No dry-cleaning or ironing.

TIP 4 : Wash your swimsuits backwards, especially when they have printed patterns.

TIP 5 :  To dry it, don’t twist it and leave it in a corner. Hang it without any clothespin and away from the sun and moisture. Sponge in a towel when it’s necessary.

Dirty Marks

  • Oil stains: Between sun cream, tanning oil and gourmet pleasure on the beach, oil stains or grease are common on swimsuits. Swab the stain with a little ammonia diluted in water. The biggest part will disappear.
  • Ink stains : You love do crossword on the beach but your swim short is spotted by ink ? Dab the stain with milk, lemon juice, salt or alcohol to dilute in water.
  • Coffee stains :  Use marseille soap and let it in hot water just for a few hours.
  • Wine stains : You can leave a little bit farine or salt to absorbe the mark. Then, dry the clothe and it with milk. Finally, let it in the washing machine.
